Halfway Lodge sits two days’ ride south of the town of Banff, and in my opinion, there’s no better place to kick off your boots and take it all in.
After our guests were fed and settled, I’d head out to make sure our four-legged pals were taken care of too. It became one of my favourite parts of the day. I’d perch on the old wooden fence and watch the sun dip behind the peaks while the soft, steady sound of horses munching on hay cubes filled the air.
This painting is a snapshot of that peaceful moment — the quiet reward after a long day in the saddle, surrounded by mountains, horses.
