Allenby Pass has a special place in my heart. It was the first mountain pass I ever climbed on horseback when I was eighteen, and I’ve made so many amazing memories up there since. The very first time I was shown the trail by my foreman, we were following huge grizzly bear tracks through the snow, it definitely felt quite wild.
Later, on my first trip taking guests up Allenby, I had eight Brazilian ladies riding with me. It was the first trip of the season, so there was still snow on the mountain. Most of them had never seen snow before, and during our lunch break at the top, about 8,000 feet up, we ended up having the best snowball fight ever (well away from the horses, of course!).
This painting brings me back to that place, the fresh mountain air, the laughter, and those moments that make the backcountry feel like home.
